Lydia Syson

Lydia Syson has worked with words and stories all her life, in her early career as a radio producer for the BBC World Service, and more recently as an author of critically acclaimed fiction which ‘brings history to life’ (The Observer). Her Young Adult novels combine passion and politics and were all initially inspired by family history. A World Between Us is set during the Spanish Civil War (1936-9), That Burning Summer explores the invasion threat of 1940, Polish pilots, spy-fever and pacifism, while Liberty’s Fire tells the dramatic story of the revolution in Paris in 1871. Mr Peacock’s Possessions, her first adult novel, was a Times and Sunday Times ‘Book of the Year’ in 2018.

A former Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at The Courtauld, Lydia is on the education team at The Wallace Collection delivering free creative writing workshops for schools.
